Aurgh…

Aurgh…

That’s pretty much how we feel after slogging down the twenty-one lock Hatton Flight. They are heavy double wide locks, so the gates are hard to move and the paddles take a lot of winding with the windlass to get them up and down. The weather was generally good apart from two brief rain showers, lasting about one lock each. The wind made it hard to manage the boat. Though the locks are double wide, we were only opening the gates on one side so there was only a narrow passage to get in and out.

I worked the locks for the first section and we picked up a gaggle of kids (with a few parents) who were happy to help push and pull things, so that was fun, but then a short but torrential rain shower chased them away, and we were left on our own. Paula worked the locks and I drove the boat for the middle section, and then we switched again for the last half a dozen.

We are moored up on the outskirts of Warwick tonight, and will probably not move the boat much for a day or two as there are interesting shops in town.
