Clunk
That is the sound of a big heavy alternator falling into the bilges as it’s recently engineered mounting succumbed to metal fatigue. Luckily I had just run the bilge pump, so there was not much water there. The alternator is probably fine, we just need to get the mounting rebuilt one more time.
Or maybe buy a generator.
This pretty much sums up my feelings on the issue.
I got up early this morning and checked the weather forecast. It said there would not be much rain in the morning, but there would be some in the afternoon, so I got the boat moving in the first dry spell. We chugged along the Bridgewater, and then through Preston Brook Tunnel onto the Trent and Mersey. As it turned out we had moved far enough to dodge the band of rain that was heading for us, so we were able to continue moving most of the afternoon as well.
Tonight we’re close to Anderton Boat Lift.
Even if we wanted to go down it we couldn’t as the Weaver Navigation is flooded. I’m hoping we can get a plan in place to get the alternator mounting fixed tomorrow morning.
