Canyonlands

The problem with crossing things off my bucket list is that I feel that much closer to death. The only solution is to keep adding things to the bucket list to keep it the same size. Now that I have seen a really big meteor crater, I’m just going to have to add “enter an archery competition” to the list. Since I can’t actually shoot a bow and arrow that may take some time.

So about that crater. It’s too big to fit in one photograph. Here are bits of it, from right to left.

We spent the morning exploring the northern part of Canyonlands National Park, which meant driving around on a six thousand foot high plateau and looking off the edge.

That’s the view from close to the visitor center.

We took a couple of hikes, too, one to see Upheaval Dome (the meteor crater above) and one to see Mesa Arch.
Mesa Arch
I tried to get a nice clean picture of the arch, but tourists kept getting in the way.

Anyhow, here are some more canyony pictures.

After four hours or so of this we were canyoned out, and were both starting to have fantasies about hot showers and flush toilets. We decided to break camp a day earlier than we planned, and go to a motel for the night. We are now in a Super 8 in Grand Junction Colorado, which not only has hot showers and flush toilets, but an ATM, a laundry, and unlimited free ice for the cooler. We had a nice dinner out at a bistro that features local produce and cost about half what it would in San Francisco. Tomorrow it’s back to life under nylon, though.

Have been dreaming every since to go again and have even more time & do more. Seeing it again with your stories. Keep having a great time. diana
