Bizarre Bath
No post yesterday, because we were having much fun in the evening.
Yesterday morning we cruised down to Bath, and found a mooring. We had lunch with Alex, owner of the company we are leasing Pegotty from, and discussed the possibility of us buying our own boat and having him manage it for us. It rained in the afternoon, so we surfed the Internet looking for possible boats.
In the evening we went out to Bizarre Bath, a 90 minute comedy magic street act packaged as a walking tour. This starts from a pub in central Bath every evening. Our host was Noel Britten. I think he alternates with another presenter. He led a group of about thirty of us around central Bath, stopping frequently for comedy or magic set pieces. His best bit was the rabbit escape artist. He took us all down to a walkway overlooking the River Avon, locked a large toy bunny in chains, placed it in a mailbag with steel weights and dropped it in the river on a rope. We counted down from ten, there was a patch of bubbles on the surface of the water, then a toy rabbit burst to the surface.
We chatted with Noel after the show. He had been a street performer in San Francisco some years ago, and it turned out we had a number of mutual friends, including the late (and much missed) Butterfly Man, Robert Nelson. Noel was surprised that the idea of running comedy walking tours had not been copied in other tourist destinations, and would be happy to come to SF again as a consultant if anyone wants to set up a similar show there. The show gets great ratings on Trip Advisor, which just shows what asking your audience to give you great reviews on Trip Advisor can do for you.
