Ellsmere was once a major center of canal operations, even today it is a popular stop for canal users mostly because of the Tesco right next to a branch of the canal, where you can take your shopping cart all the way to the boat. A mere is a lake, and there are several of them in the neighborhood….
including one that makes an attractive training ground for battle swans.

The town boats a number of antique shops including one selling vintage ferret nets.

One of the streets is called Love Lane, and turns out to have zero margin for errors when driving. Interestingly, this is a two way street.

I was waking down it with Peter and Sherri when a van came down. There was no room for him to pass us, so he just had to follow us at walking pace till we got to the junction.
Tonight we are moored up next to a field of bullocks who seem very curious about Paula. There are two gates next to each other, connected to a fence that peters out in a few yards, so the bullocks can walk around the end of the fence.
I don’t understand the agricultural principles that would require this, but then I am not a Welsh farmer. Herding Eisteddfodau takes its toll, and logic and proportion are the first victims.
