A Country Walk
It’s a lovely day, let’s go for a walk.
No, not you.
The bugs and butterflies are pollinating the flowers…
… and the damselflies are having incredibly complicated damselfly sex.
In some species, the pair will remain in this wheel position for only a minute. Others, however, may stay in formation for several hours, while the male tries to use spoonlike structures on his penis to scoop out any sperm from other males the female may already have in her.
Sometimes there is a blockage in the path to go around…
… or a ditch to cross.
We reach the village of Warmington. There’s an old mill…
… a dovecote…
… and an underpass with a mural showing exciting things like the old mill and the dovecote.
There’s thatched cottages…
… manicured gardens…
… and a 13th century church.
The interior of the church still has the original wooden fan vaulting…
… and it is decorated with green men, the pagan gods of vegetation.
I think some pagan woodcarvers back in the day were having a bit of a laugh about putting their gods at the highest point in a christian church.
Let’s stroll back through the fields, admiring the wildflowers.
Oh, look, there’s a damselfly visiting the boat. Fly away little damselfly. Go have weirdly complicated damselfly sex.

Delightful to take this little summertime dawdle. We know Fotheringhay quite well – an overnight stop for a weekend from our mooring at Yarwell. Warmington not so well. More of a lock on the way to Oundle. We will have to take the walk next time. All those green men; bit Wickerman.
