We are back in swan-infested Newbury.

Lots of ducks, too, but the geese seem to have buggered off, it being that time of year, and it is time for us to do the same.

This is our final mooring of the trip. Tomorrow we spend doing laundry and packing, and Friday we give the boat back to Alex.

Pegotty looks a little different from when we picked her up. There’s a little more blacking scraped off the hull, and some of Paula’s decorative paintwork on the sides. The ventilators are a lot more shiny, as well.

The total journey was 735 miles, 547 locks, and 68 moveable bridges.

We spent around 400 hours traveling, averaging between three and four hours a day.

There were 127 small aqueducts or underbridges. There were 31 tunnels including Blisworth, Braunston, Shrewley, Brandwood, Edgbaston, Galton, Netherton, Dunsley, Cookely, Cowley, Ellesmere, Chirk, Whitehouses, Harecastle, Snarestone, Heath Crescent, Newbold, Savernake, Beckford Road, and Cleveland House. There were 8 major aqueducts including Chirk, Pontcysyllte, Avoncliffe and Dundas (twice each).

We traveled 461 miles on narrow canals, 215 miles on broad canals, 20 miles on the Kennet river, and 39 miles on the Thames.

The Canal and River Trust still has a sense of humor.
